I don't think my boss thought I deserved a raise but gave me one anyway?

You are in the minority. Most employees deserve a raise and do not get one due to the economy. If you boss has no backbone and did something that he did not want to, it is his problem not yours. You are over thinking the situation. $1 over minimum wage for a college grad with experience is pitiful and you deserve even more, so get over him.
