Is it worth it? Scottish Gaelic?

My boyfriend is a speaker of Scottish Gaelic, and I wanted to learn some to be able to talk with him, because he is making an effort to learn some Arabic. I want it to be a surprise, so I looked for iPhone apps. There is one, for �9.99, which will be the most i've ever payed for a app. Is it worth it, to buy this app or should I keep looking for another way to learn (I haven't been able to find any others). Thanks
