How do i plumb washing machine and dishwasher together?

when i moved into my current property, there was seperate drainage pipes for the dishwasher and washing machine previous tenant paid for this facility) however, if i move to another proprty, is it possible to have both appliences draining from the same u-bend pipe? I understand there may be a bit of plumbing required on my part.
