If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

No I'm not seriously asking this question. What I want to know is how people could be so ridiculously stupid to ask it in the first place? If Americans came from Britain why are there still British people? Do people just not understand how evolution works; do they think that everything just automatically evolves into humans? No need to chime in and say technical things like "we didnt evolve from monkeys but a common ancestor
